LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Nine University of Louisville athletic teams posted a perfect score in the most recent single-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) data that was released by the NCAA on Wednesday.
The nine UofL sports -- five women's and four men's -- with a perfect 1000 APR score for the most recent 2012-13 figures consist of men's basketball, football, men's golf, women's golf, women's lacrosse, softball, women's soccer, men's tennis, and volleyball.
UofL's men's basketball and women's golf teams are among the top 10 percent in their respective sports in the latest multiyear APR, which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes. Both sports have a perfect 1000 score for the four-year period from 2009-13 and received public recognition from the NCAA last week.
The men's basketball team earned a record 3.40 collective grade point average for the 2013-14 academic year, the highest ever for the UofL men's basketball team. The team produced a record 3.47 combined GPA for the 2013 fall semester, the highest ever semester average for the Cardinals and the best among UofL's 10 men's sports programs. For the 2014 spring semester, the team posted a combined 3.37 GPA, with 10 of 14 Cardinals earning a 3.0 or better, including eight above a 3.5 GPA. The men's basketball team has been around a collective 3.0 GPA for 12 straight semesters.
The women's golf team produced a collective 3.640 grade point average for the 2013-14 academic year with all nine team members earned a 3.0 GPA or better in the fall semester, including three earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall. Sophomore Emily Haas was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America, accomplishing a 3.98 cumulative GPA in biology.
Over the last four seasons, a total of 106 football players have earned their degrees, including 29 student-athletes for this current academic year. A record 34 students were named American Athletic Conference academic award winners this season, honoring those with a 3.0 GPA for the year.
Setter Hannah Kvitle for the Cardinals' volleyball team was recognized with the top women's senior grade point average this year, posting a 3.932 GPA in special education. In all, 10 volleyball players were named as Red and Black Scholars with 13 of the 14 named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Emily Juhl won the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award, the Academic Services Postgraduate Scholarship, and was accepted into the U of L Dental School.
The field hockey team was named to the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Team Award list (minimum 3.0 GPA for 2012 fall semester). Seven student-athletes were named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad
The softball team was named one of the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top All-Academic Teams while five players were named NFCA Scholar Athletes. As a team, the Cardinals posted a collective 3.154 GPA during the 2012-13 season.
The Cardinals' men's golf team posted a 3.35 cumulative GPA for the 2013-14 season, including a 3.37 during the spring semester.
The men's tennis team was selected one of the 2012-13 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-Academic Teams and five players were named Scholar Athletes.
All of the 23 Cardinals sports teams -- including 10 men's and 13 women's sports -- have a four-year APR score above 930 and none are subject to any penalties.
