LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
A record number of students was named to the University of Louisville's Athletic Directors Honor Roll for the fall of 2012. Student-athletes must post a 3.0 GPA or higher for the semester. This fall, 355 student-athletes (plus another 168 members of the spirit groups, pep band, managers and trainers) were named to the honor roll, which set a new school record.
There were 231 student-athletes named Red and Black Scholar Athletes (3.25 cumulative GPA or better) which is also a record number. (Another 80 members of the spirit groups, managers and trainers earned this honor as well).
"I am pleased and proud of our young student-athletes who did a great job in the classroom," said associate athletic director for academics, Marvin Mitchell. "I am impressed by the consistency with which we keep improving in Tom Jurich's ten plus years here."
Sixteen of 19 teams had a 3.0 or higher in the Fall 2012 semester. The total semester GPA of 3.115 is a record for semester GPA. This is the fourth straight semester the total semester GPA has been above a 3.0.
Six teams had record numbers on the AD Honor Roll for a single semester, consisting of men's basketball (15), baseball (29), women's soccer (24), rowing (45), men's soccer (18) and football (48).
Women's golf earned the highest GPA for 2012 fall semester. This is the fourth semester in a row they have had the highest GPA. Following women's golf was men's basketball, softball, men's go1f and baseball.
Forty-three current and former student athletes participated in the 2012 fall graduation ceremony.
