Learning Specialist


Karen Howard-Goss is in her first year as a Learning Specialist for the University of Louisville. She is responsible for enhancing the academic success of at-risk student-athletes by providing intensive, essential learning strategies through proactive, early, sustained, and individualized support. She also serves as a liaison to the University's Disability Resource Center for student-athletes who enter the University with documentation of a learning disability.

Prior to her arrival at the University of Louisville, Howard-Goss worked for Coastal Carolina University (CCU) as a Learning Specialist for Athletic Academic Support Services for two years. She also spent a year at CCU as a Coordinator for the Accessibility & Disability Services Office. Karen worked for Horry County Schools in South Carolina from 1997 to 2010. Among many roles, she assisted in the coordination of the speech and hearing department.

Howard-Goss earned a bachelor's degree in communicative disorders at the University of Akron in 1994 and a master's degree in educational administration from the University of South Carolina in 2004. In addition, she has earned 30 hours in special education from Ohio State University.

Originally from Canton, Ohio, Karen and her husband Gary have three children: Austin, Connor and McKenna.
