U of L Dedicates Peers Academic Center

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville dedicated its renovated Academic Athletic Services Center Monday afternoon by naming it for Olga Peers in a ceremony at the facility located in the Swain Student Activities Center.
The Olga S. Peers Academic Center for Student Athletes provides support for nearly 500 U of L student-athletes through tutoring, advisement and academic planning. Academic enrichment is offered through training in study skill, time management, academic integrity and goal setting.
"Olga has been a fixture at U of L on administrative committees and in the stands at athletic events," said U of L President Dr. John Shumaker. "Her efforts, energy and passion have helped us attain compliance with both the spirit and letter of gender equity in athletics. She has long been dedicated to the success of our athletic teams both academically and in athletic competition."
A retired Circuit Court judge, Peers has long been involved with U of L athletics and is currently a member of the U of L Athletics Association Board of Directors.
A graduate of U of L's School of Law and a former member of the school's Board of Trustees (1992-98), she recently chaired the Athletic Association's 1997-98 Subcommittee on Gender Equity which helped establish U of L as a model program for Gender Equity in college athletics.
Peers has served on a host of other U of L committees including the 1992 Special Committee on Governance, the 1994-95 Presidential Search Committee and the 1995 NCAA Certification Steering Committee. She is a former president of the U of L Alumni Association and was recognized in a 1998 multimedia exhibit by U of L's School of Law entitled "Connecting with our Legacy: Kentucky's Early Women Lawyers.
