Daytona Beach, Fla. -- The University of Louisville All-Girl Cheerleading Squad placed first at the NCA/NDA (National Cheerleading Association/National Dance Association) College National Championships amongst Division IA schools. The Cardinal Co-ed Squad took second and the Ladybirds dance team improved to fourth at the Oceanfront Beach Shell.
The All-Girl Squad had the highest score of all Divisions and beat out Oklahoma and Florida State which finished second and third respectively.
The Co-ed squad entered the finals ranked first after preliminaries. However the 1999 National Championship squad was edged by North Carolina State and finished just ahead of Oklahoma State.
The Ladybirds Dance Team was sixth entering Friday's finals and improved to a fourth place finish. Brigham Young won the division with NC State and Rutgers edging out U of L.
The Cheerleading squads arrive back in Louisville Sunday at 12:30 p.m. on Delta.
