Cardinals Announce Red and Black Award Winners

The University of Louisville hosted its 17th annual Red and Black Honors Banquet and Scholar-Athlete Awards ceremony on Sunday night at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in the Brown and Williamson Club.
A record 311 Cardinals, consisting of student-athletes, spirit squad members and team managers, were recognized for achieving at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average for all semesters at Louisville. Louisville recorded a best 290 Red and Black Scholars last season.
Elaine Wise, the university's faculty athletic representative, began the ceremony by welcoming the student-athletes and acknowledging professors, faculty and academic mentors for their hard work and dedication to Louisville's student-athletes.
Once the student-athletes, team managers and spirit squad members were recognized, the final awards of the evening were announced. Earning the outstanding senior awards, which recognizes the two senior scholar-athletes who have earned the highest GPA during their course of study at Louisville, were field hockey's Natasha Leickly and Mandy Brown of women's tennis.
The next award was for the teams that earned the highest grade-point average for the preceding year (spring, summer and fall of 2012).
On the men's side, the golf team collected the accolade for the third straight year, while the women's golf team obtained the award on the women's side for the second consecutive year.
