LITTLE FALLS, N.J. -
Nelligan Sports Marketing, Inc. (NSM) announced today that it has reached a new five-year agreement with Louisville based, 50,000-watt clear-channel station NewsRadio 84WHAS to broadcast all University of Louisville football and men's basketball games as well as the John L. Smith and Rick Pitino Coaches Shows beginning in the fall of 2002. During the term of the agreement, the University of Louisville will receive priority clearance for all sports programming broadcast on 84WHAS.
"This has been a wonderful partnership for UofL Athletics," said Tom Jurich, University of Louisville's Director of Athletics. "Continuing our association with Kentucky's only 50,000-watt clear channel station allows our fans and alumni throughout the region to follow the excitement of our football and basketball programs."
"There has been an explosion of interest in the UofL athletic program over the last twelve months," said Bill Gentry, General Manager of 84WHAS. "We are very pleased to have reached an agreement to continue to offer the excitement of the Louisville Cardinals to our listeners."
The agreement was negotiated through Nelligan Sports Marketing, the company that now represents the exclusive marketing rights for the University of Louisville athletic program. "Solidifying this relationship with 84WHAS was fundamental in building a strong platform to enhance marketing opportunities for UofL," said Tim Hofferth, President and Chief Operating Officer of Nelligan Sports Marketing. "Securing the Cardinals as the primary sports program on one of the premier 50,000 watt stations is essential in maximizing the exposure for the University," added Hofferth.
"We will continue to build a statewide network of affiliate stations in local communities and home towns throughout the state to deliver U of L programming to loyal Cardinals' fans throughout the bluegrass," added Jurich.
The powerful station (840 AM) has carried U of L events for the past 21 years, broadcasting Cardinal games since 1980. For the past 16 years, U of L has been afforded priority status among athletic teams on the station.
