On March 8, the University of Louisville track and field staff will hold a one-day camp for all middle and high school track and field athletes. All disciplines at these levels will be coached by Louisville's highly experienced and successful staff, and the camp will take place inside Louisville's indoor Trager Center.
Date: Saturday, March 8, 2014
Camp Time: 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
Check-in: Begins at 8:30 a.m.
Who: Any 6th-12th grade student
Where: Trager Center | Driving Directions
Cost: $50 if registration is received by Feb. 27; $60 after Feb. 27 or walk-up
Provided: Event coaching, lunch, and camp T-shirt
** Note: Beginning and experience pole vaulters are welcome. Pole vaulters are encouraged to bring their own poles, but Louisville's pole vault poles will be available if needed. Dale Cowper - Throwing Events
Coach Cowper has experienced unbelievable success at the NCAA Division I level across the board in the throwing events. He has coached a national champion, multiple All-Americans, and multiple all-conference recipients. He is highly knowledgeable in each of the throwing events.
Joe Walker Jr. - Jumping Events
Coach Walker has 45 years of coaching experience with his highest accolades occurring in the jumps. He has coached Brittney Reese to a gold medal performance in the 2012 Olympic Games in the long jump. He has also coached multiple national champions and All-Americans in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump, while coaching at Ole Miss, Florida, and Louisville.
Terry Winston - Sprinting and Hurdling Events
Coach Winston has coached many elite level hurdles and sprinters. He has coached two Olympians and one World Championship athlete. He also has developed multiple All-Americans and conference champions at the Division I level.
Joe Walker III - Distance Events
Coach Walker III joined the staff three years ago after racking up multiple accolades as the distance coach at Alabama. He was named the SEC Cross Country Coach of the Year three different times and has directed his athletes to six national titles and 36 All-America distinctions.
Taryn Sheehan - Distance Events
Coach Sheehan is a former national level distance runner at Louisville. She began her coaching career at Western Michigan and joined the UofL staff three years ago. Her energy and commitment has brought the cross country team and distance performances on the track to new heights at Louisville.
Brooke Demo - Pole Vault
Coach Demo is a pole vault specialist after qualifying for the NCAA Championships twice and achieving a personal best of 4.19m/13-9.25 in the event. She has coached the pole vault at the Division I level for five years with a conference champion, multiple regional qualifiers, and multiple all-conference performers. She understands all levels of the vault and also has developed many middle school and high school level athletes while previously running a pole vault club.
